In Singapore, GST stands for Goods and Service Tax. It was 3% in 1994, 4% in 2003, 5% in 2004 and 7% in 2007. It is currently 8% in 2023 and will raise to 9% in 2024.
The GST rate is 8% in 2023, and service charge is widely accepted to be 10%. Hence, if
your meal is $100, you would be expected to pay $8 on GST, and $10 on service charge.
Your total bill would be $100 + $8 + $10 = $118.
Please note not all restaurants charge service charge. Where necessary, please clarify
with the restaurant.
There is no GST payable for Singapore Customs for goods with total cost, insurance and freight (CIF) at $400 or less. However, if your Suppliers is registered for GST, you'd be required to pay GST at the point of purchase.
